AFRICAN UNION BEST PRACTICES AWARD COMPETITION (AUBPA)
JUDGING PROCESS

Establishing Nominees and Winners

The AUBPA award nominees and winners are selected by AUBPA award committee from the best sites entered through the entry period. Evaluated against the criteria, sites undergo a rigorous process to win the coveted AUBPA award. All voting is tabulated to ensure fairness and accuracy.

I: Review of Sites

How Sites are Reviewed

From the sites submitted during the entry period, AU Commission will assign site reviewers and they will independently inspect each site and rate them based on the judging criteria. Each site is reviewed by a minimum of two (2) reviewers. The AUBPA award committee compiles those ratings to compare all of the sites entered in each category and from those reviews produces a short list of the best sites entered for consideration in each category, based on each member's expertise.

Description of Site Reviewers

Site Reviewers are Internet and creative professionals who work with and on the Internet. They have clearly demonstrable familiarity with the category in which they review and have been individually required to produce evidence of such expertise. The site reviewers are given different sites in their category for review and they are all barred from reviewing any site with which they have a conflict of interest, any personal or professional affiliation. The AUBPA award committee will inspects the work of each reviewer for fairness and accuracy.

II: Establish Nominees and Winners

Nominees and Winners are Chosen

Based on the categories for which they are qualified, AUBPA award committee members rate the sites on the short lists based on their expertise and knowledge of the issues related to each particular category. Based on these rankings, the committee determines the selection of the five (5) Nominees and the Winner for each Category. In the event of a tie, the Chairperson of any individual category casts the tie-breaking vote. The weight of each category varies with the goal of each site; a Web site is much more than the sum of its parts.

Due to the fact that only five (5) nominees including one (1) winner can be chosen for each category, other sites that are worthy of recognition are eligible to receive special commendation from the committee as official honorees (e.g. first and second runner up).

Description of AUBPA award committee Members

Members of The committee are visionaries, evangelists and luminaries who have catalyzed great achievements on the Internet or have demonstrated extraordinary talent in a traditional medium.
